Harold Park Public Open Space, Glebe

Public Open Space

Client: City of Sydney Council
Status: Completed 2017

The project involved the construction of a new 3.8ha public open space and park as part of the redevelopment of the former Harold Park Raceway. It incorporated a large active recreation playing field, playground, community garden, raingardens, stormwater floodway, soft and hard landscaping and interface with the residential development. The project also incorporated the redevelopment of the Harold Park tramway sheds and retail area.

Diversi was engaged to undertake the civil design of the floodway, site earthworks, grading, stormwater drainage and water quality treatment/raingardens. A flood study was also undertaken for the large catchment area which extends to the south beyond Sydney University in order to assess flows for both the 1% AEP and PMF storm events.

The site proved to have a number of complex issues and constraints. However, Diversi was able to provide creative engineering solutions which minimised the impact on the capping layer over the contamination fill buried under the park, as well as capturing and treating the significant stormwater flows which enter the site from the older Glebe area.
